La Cabanita Restaurant & Bakery
By Deborah Elvrom
Combining years of training and individual
experimentation with recipes, Carmelo Burgos, his wife Eulalia Barona
and daughters Yadira, Nidia and Filiberta have created a unique blend of
delicious Mexican food and a panaderia (Mexican bread store).
La
Cabanita has been opened for three years. A brisk business has brought
the opportunity to expand the restaurant into the building next
door. Remodeling is now underway with the expected opening in January or
February.
Customers can special order cakes for birthdays and other occasions by
calling or coming in to order.
La
Cabanita sells bread locally in Madras and their bread can also be found
in Bend at Tortilleria Reyes, and La Colima. In Prineville, El Vaquero
carries the bread supply.
Eulalia
worked in a restaurant in Mexico called La Cabana and she liked the name
so much that it was a natural to call the family business La Cabanita. The
atmosphere is cozy with prompt, friendly service. Prices are reasonable
and the food is tasty and filling.
La
Cabanita Restaurant and Bakery is located at 241 SE 5th St. in Madras.
Hours are: 8 a.m. - 10 p.m. and the telephone number is (541) 475-8098.
